Sclerotherapy treatment – Let’s face it, whether it’s a hot, humid summer day in July or a cool November afternoon, it’s never fun to pull on a pair of panty hose or tights. The waistband is constricting, the delicate fabric is prone to runs, and it’s just a pain to pull them up and down every time you have to use the bathroom. But for many women, wearing these items is a necessity in order to cover unsightly spider veins.

Spider veins are groups of dilated veins that appear close to the surface and appear to look like spider webs or tree branches. While they’re not usually associated with any symptoms, it’s the appearance of these red and blue veins that have women looking for ways to hide them.

Here at Davie Dermatology and The Med Spa, we are excited to offer our clients a way to reduce the appearance of spider veins through cosmetic sclerotherapy. This treatment has been around for decades and is a proven and accepted method for treating spider veins. Larger veins, or ones that cause leg swelling or pain are best treated at a vein clinic.

Sclerotherapy is done by injecting a sclerosing solution directly into the veins. The number of veins injected in one session depends on the size, extent and location of the veins, as well as the general medical condition of the client. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together. Then the blood will clot, and over time the vessel turns to scar tissue that fades from view. Injecting the solution causes the treated vein to shrink, and then your body naturally absorbs it over time.

You can return to normal activities right after sclerotherapy treatment, but remember that it might take several for you to see complete results. It is best to avoid direct sunlight for four weeks after treatment.

If you’ve been plagued by spider veins and waste away your summers covering up your legs with pants when you’d rather wear sundresses and shorts, take time now to treat your legs. Call The Med Spa today 336-940-2407 to schedule a consultation.
