There’s a reason why people like to hold their phone up high to where their face is lifted up for selfies. It’s because for many Americans, old or young, big or small, a double chin is a part of life. And looking down into the phone for a selfie only accentuates that feature. Here at Davie Dermatology & The Med Spa, we’re focused on providing services that help you feel comfortable putting your best face forward in any situation, and that includes selfies. Therefore we have begun offering Kybella as an option for treatment for double chin.
In order to explain Kybella and its benefits, we must first define the double chin. A double chin is laymen’s terms for submental fat, which just means extra tissue beneath the lower jaw bone. This could be fat, skin, or a combination of the two.
There are many different reasons for the appearance of a double chin. Being overweight is often seen as a reason for having a double chin, while weight can be a factor, it’s not the only one. Some people might not be overweight at all and still exhibit a double chin. This could be due to genetics and aging. With aging there is a loss of skin elasticity and sagging of the skin.
There are surgical procedures to help treat the appearance of a double chin, including a neck lift or liposuction. But for those who would like to be able to eliminate the double chin without undergoing surgery, there’s Kybella. This is medication that is injected into the skin under your chin to destroy fat cells. After a scheduled amount of treatments, you will begin to see an improvement in your chin’s appearance.
“Kybella is a perfect option for people who would like to treat their double chin, but don’t want to go through surgery,” said Carol Grabow, PA-C. “The ideal female candidate is between 21-55 years old with a moderate amount of chin fat.”
Kybella is not the treatment of choice for patients with excessive skin sag or laxity. Therefore, the treatment is generally not recommended for people over the age of 55, where skin laxity is a primary cause for a double chin.
To help educate the public on Kybella and the benefits of this procedure, we have planned a Lunch and Learn opportunity on March 23, 2018, from 1-2 p.m. in our office. This program gives you the opportunity to learn more about Kybella and its benefits, as well as ask questions and sign up for a free consultation. “Kybella works to reduce chin fat, therefore a consultation is extremely important before treatment to make sure you are an ideal candidate to provide look you are hoping for,” Grabow said.
